Let Me Roll It Cover - New Mic Goofin!
Just added this to the repertoire, not sure why I never got around to learning it before, always liked it. I'm recording myself and my guitar with one mic in the room.
I just did an upgrade to an inexpensive older microphone (AKG P420) with parts from microphone-parts.com , I will say the website is aptly named. The mic sounded so darn good after the capsule replacement I just had to use it on a quick and dirty project, hope you enjoy it. Be aware upgrading and building DIY mic kits are a Stage 4 Music Nerd project. It's not particularly cheap (but the results rival mics many times more expensive), and it's not that easy of a soldering project. Highly recommended if you're so inclined though, and every review on their website is like my experience: "I had no idea it would sound THIS good."
They didn't pay me, I promise. Just a shout out to a solid company, I'll definitely be building more of their stuff.

Dear Prudence - Mighty Joe Beatty Tribute

The world lost a silly, beautiful man on 2/28/21. My old friend Joe Beatty arranged this fantastic version of Dear Prudence, and I was lucky enough to play bass and sing backups on it with him back in 2004-05 or so. Miss you buddy. I stumbled across this really excellent karaoke track to All I Do, it's a little slower than the original and grooves like crazy, and I couldn't help but mess around with it. The karaoke track is here: ua-cam.com/video/OuLucKB_Q7k/v-deo.html . All credit for everything goes to Stevie Wonder, and I mean, everything, thanks Stevie for hanging the moon, the tides, oxygen, all the rest of that stuf...

    So I finally plugged V3 of this pedal into my bass rig and I really like it a lot for bass. V3 has both a mix/blend knob for the dry & distorted signals, and a bass knob. With those two little knobs plus the larger Gain, Treble, and level controls on the overdrive, you can retain good attack while going from super light overdrive up to fairly heavy overdrive and retaining a good bit of the low end. On the compressor side, you have a really nice, good compressor but also a noise gate! The V3 Route 66 is very good on my bass rig. (A GK RB1001 + Carvin BRX 4x10). I like it best to add just sort of light to medium overdrive, noise gate on, bass turned up a bit, and basically emulating a tube driven bass amp breaking up just a bit. UPDATE: I bought an MXR M89 Bass Overdrive and it's a lot better than the Route 66. The MXR definitely is passing more low end through than the R66. With that MXR I could then tell that also engaging and disengaging the compressor with the MXR M89 on, the low end is dropping out with the compressor too. I have a keeley (guitar) compressor as well and it was worse for filtering the low end out. The Route 66 is not as bad as most guitar pedals and the bass boost knob helps, but that MXR is a big upgrade in terms of feeling the low end. It's a clear keeper. I plugged in a bunch of other guitar pedals, overdrives, distortions, fuzz etc and really didn’t like most of them for bass as they all kill the low end pretty badly. They have their uses but I think the 66 will become my main bass compressor and overdrive. Add a tuner and maybe a bass fuzz, possibly chorus, and maybe a DI, and I don’t think I would want anything else. (For bass…) My REVISED opinion is, if you have a Route 66 on the shelf and want to try it with your bass rig, crank up the bass knob and go for it. But if you are serious about bass I'd definitely check out an MXR M89 if you like the route 66. Similar kinds of sounds, but more low end you can FEEL. I would actually consider putting two M89's on my board and setting them differently (light & heavy gain).

      It’s really that good, another converted lol! the compressor is noisy on mine, I treat it as an effect more than a compressor if you catch my drift, but I’ll bet it sounds great through that GK. Doesn’t matter much live at any rate. Cheers!

      @@NickWeissMusic I just added an MXR M89...wow, quite a bit more low end beef you can FEEL. It also has me considering a bass specific compressor. Comments above revised a bit.

    I've a '76 Mustang Sunburst that did the same thing. I'm the second owner and got it back in '92. I really don't think it was ever varnished by the previous owner as it wasn't monkeyed with much. Car polish did do the trick to fix the gummy, sticky issues.

      Case closed, Fender obviously used nitro in the 70’s, seems like it was a colored nitro top coat on top of a poly clear coat (you can see a clear layer under the black layer on my guitar). Nitro clouds up, poly doesn’t. I assumed my guitar was refinished due to the shoddy overall look, paint in the neck pocket etc, but that just might have been Fender in the 70’s, probably had barrels of nitro to get rid of as things were moving to poly so they used it to nail polish their guitars.

    • @jeffmurdock8321
      @jeffmurdock8321 Місяць тому

      @@NickWeissMusic I agree completely as my guitar has severe wear where my picking/strumming arm rests. The black is now all gone, but it's still shiny there with a coating of something clear. That always baffled me how the colour was gone but a shiny coat remained. Your explanation seems spot on. Tip: When cleaning a Fender Mustang, wipe off the dirt but never the grunge. ;)

    I tried your way originally but it didn't have that "flows like water" feel the record has. I came up with this, utilizing a double drop D tuning and a capo. ua-cam.com/video/Mk7IDPae0J4/v-deo.htmlsi=o3o1587T06FRSrqY It might be what Fred did, while Paul stayed in regular tuning. There is definitely more than one acoustic guitar at work on that track

    Ok thanks I am confused.. this is rated at 30 watts… How does it compare to even low end power speakers start at 1000 watts??? They are about $200 and simple mixer $100… 30 watts vs 1000 watts!? Something does not make sense Let’s forget about battery for now..!!

    Truetone is the same company. It's not a corporate buyout. They just changed their name. That's the original version (V1) of the Route 66. There was a v2 that had the weird triangle shape and an elevated back edge, and then the current V3 which is rectangular and more pedalboard friendly in it's design. I was just thinking about plugging my V3 into my bass rig, and searched for a demo here. Their webpage says it’s good for guitar, bass or whatever other instrument you want to plug into it.

    Very well done. It works good. My only question is on the 2, 5, 7, 4 part at the end of the 2nd line. You say that you're playing the D, G, and B strings but you don't say what you play on the G and B strings. You look like you're arching your index so I'm guessing the G is open. I can't tell if you're having over the B string or pressing down on it.

    Hey man, my wife uses groove boxes mc707 101 mocrofreak vt4 for her vocals she runs through her 707. I usually play acoustic through PA or electric through JC40. We have been looking at the column stick PAs. But do this can handle your bass, and doesnt fart out. Do you think 2 of these would be a good PA choice for a duo like us? We dont get too heavy like boom bap 808 floor rattle stuff, but we do need nice clear low end, for her synths and groove boxes, guitar electric or acoustic and 2 vocals. Does it have the low end to have some clear punch in a bar or coffee shop stuff like that? They could make great speakers at home for the TV as well I bet.

    • @NickWeissMusic
      @NickWeissMusic Рік тому

      I have Bose towers too, and would much rather use them than these roland speakers when possible. The Rolands are great for battery power situations though. They would be plenty for a coffehouse, but they don't have dedicated subwoofers like most towers do, and they don't have a "hi-fi" sound in comparison. I'd say it depends on how you're performing. If you're mostly busking and can take advantage of the battery feature, the Rolands would be a good first choice. For most people, these are a good second rig to use when needed, and give you a lot of flexibility, but I have better stuff to use if power is available. If I were playing in bars and coffehouses I'd go with a small tower myself.
